Role Overview:

We are currently recruiting for Fixed Term Contract Security Officers on a 30-hour contract per week working shifts. This is a fully flexible contract and when the operation requires, you will be rostered up to 40 hours per week, with potential further overtime required in the peak summer period.

We offer an hourly rate of £8.88 per hour as well as an attractive monthly shift allowance on top of your basic salary.

These fixed term contracts will start from January 2018 until 31st October 2018.  Please be aware that the contract starts with a 3-week training course and the first course will be in January 2018 with further courses scheduled each month until May 2018.  The selection process for this position will commence from December 2017 onwards.

Please note that there is potential for this fixed term contract to be extended or made permanent depending on operational requirements.

 

Job Description:

The Security Officer Job is a customer service focused role which is responsible for maintaining Security standards and ensuring the smooth transition of passengers, staff and airport users as instructed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Directorate.

Please note that previous experience in Security (including SIA licence) is not essential because we provide you with full training prior to starting.

Responsibilities:

  • To screen all personnel and vehicles passing through restricted areas using archway detectors and manual body searching when necessary
  • To operate the x-ray equipment to screen luggage and other items being carried into restricted areas
  • To manually search luggage and items when appropriate to ensure no prohibited items are taken into the restricted zone
  • To check identification or travel documents for all passengers, staff and airport users requiring access to restricted areas
  • Provide excellent customer service to all passengers passing through the Security area
  • To patrol the terminal and airside areas to ensure that the terminal is secure

Shift Information:

This is a fully flexible 30 hour contract working shifts and when the operation requires, you will be rostered up to 40 hours per week, with potential further overtime required in the peak summer period.

The shift start and end times will vary with early starts, late evening finishes and potentially some night shifts. The shifts could start as early as 3.30am or your backshifts could finish at 10.30pm or midnight.  Please be aware that as we are a 24/7 operation, you will be rostered to work weekends and could also be rostered on bank/public holidays.  The length of your shifts will also vary too between 4-10 hours per shift.

Any changes to the 30 hour shift pattern will be produced and issued by Security Planning a minimum of 10 days in advance. Any changes required after 10 days minimum period staff will be asked if they can change if they cannot then they will work rostered shift.  Please note that you will be guaranteed to get one double rest day period in every calendar month and 1 weekend in 6.

  • You will receive an accredited training certificate (Level 1 Aviation Ground Security Officer) on completion of the induction training course which can be transferable onto other airports

  • The potential to have your fixed term contract extended and/or move onto our fixed 40 hour or night shift rostered teams (dependant on operational requirements)

Qualifications and Experience:
It would be desirable to have a minimum of one year working in a front line customer service type role however because we provide full training for the Security Officer role, we would welcome applicants from all backgrounds/experiences.
 
Please note that previous experience in a Security role (including having an SIA licence) is not essential because we provide you with full training prior to starting.
 
Please be aware that this role involves a lot of physical work (e.g. to process hand baggage on and off the screening machines & body searching passengers) as well as being on your feet for long periods of time.

  • You must be able to work as part of a team & also have the ability to learn and follow set procedures
  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • Must be able to be cleared in accordance with CAA regulations (includes providing a satisfactory five-year reference history and EAL being able to obtain satisfactory UK Criminal Record Certificate and Counter Terrorist Certificate on your behalf).
