This role will involve working within a high performing team in a commercial environment, and will require good management and organisational skills to prioritise and deliver contracts and contracting advice to stakeholders regarding a retail portfolio worth £10’s of millions. It is imperative that the person in this role works well in a team, proactively offering support and guidance to Business Development Managers as well as taking the initiative to manage any contractual documentation and disputes from the point a deal is agreed. Using your contract drafting and negotiating skills, and with oversight from Edinburgh Airport’s Legal Team where necessary, you will turn the retail portfolio into robust contracts for the benefit of the business. We are looking for a dynamic individual with good attention to detail and a desire to work with a high performing team in a commercial environment.


Role Accountabilities:

This is a varied role, it will include:

  • Working closely with Business Development Managers and the Finance Department to make sure the commercial deals are correct and commercially sound.
  • Managing the complete contract process of commercial deals from the point of opportunity identified through to signature of contracts.
  • Preparing contractual documentation and contracts up to a standard required for Legal Director, Commercial Director and Finance Director approval.
  • Identifying areas of improvement in commercial deals, company’s contracting process and contractual documentation.
  • Engaging with third parties throughout the contractual negotiation process. 
  • Serve as a primary contact for the commercial team for contractual queries and advice, and escalate when appropriate to the legal team.
  • Engaging with external legal counsel for the company and external legal counsel of third parties on contractual matters.
  • Providing advice and assistance on contractual matters to Business Development Managers.
  • Supporting Business Development Managers in presenting the company’s position to new business partners and advising managers of their contractual rights and obligations.
  • Contributing to contract management and administration policies and procedures
Qualifications and Experience:

You will be confident and professional individual able to work in a variety of different settings and situations. You will bring energy to the role and relish the prospect of “rolling up your sleeves” and learning about the contractual requirements of various aspects of our business.

Qualified solicitor with minimum 3 years PQE.  You will have demonstrable experience and knowledge of contracts, drafting, and contract law relating to high value/risk contracts including:

  • being comfortable working with template contracts, amending template contracts and drafting from scratch; and
  • being able to apply risk assessment and risk mitigation in the context of each contract.
  • Contract drafting and general understanding of a contract is essential.
  • Exceptional attention to detail is essential.
  • Comprehend and interpret contract language is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret potentially complex commercial deals.
  • You will be proficient in IT and have effective communication skills, both written and oral. Contract management qualifications (such as IACCM) would be good, but not essential.
  • To ensure all activities within the role are focused upon delivering against Edinburgh’s Airport sales, income and customer service charter.
  • The candidate will have the benefit of a suite of current template documents and access to Thomson Reuters’ Practical Law templates and practise notes.
  • To participate in projects and working parties, carrying out any other duties that maybe outside the standard remit for personal development or as may be reasonably required by the company.
  • Responsible for personal compliance with company Health and Safety Policies, ensuring safe working practices to minimise risk to self, work colleagues, customers and staff is minimised.
  • To comply with all legal and statutory obligations applicable to this role.
  • To ensure that any systems and procedures introduced by the Company are effectively implemented and adhered to.
