Role overview

The successful candidate will support the Aviation team to manage the pipeline of new route opportunities and developing further the existing Edinburgh Airport network by working closely with the Route Development function. The role will be centred on the Aviation pipeline which incorporates route opportunities from both existing carriers serving Edinburgh Airport and new airlines.  Strong commercial acumen, analytical capability and sales/business development experience required.

Principal responsibilities

  • Actively and credibly contribute to the airport aviation pipeline of opportunities
  • Day to day management of the aviation pipeline
  • Develop and maintain of the existing CRM system
  • Creatively interpret and analyse data to produce professional business cases to support route development
  • Utilise route development and performance tools to effectively identify and evaluate route and growth opportunities
  • Effectively articulate business cases to airlines in the form of a sales pitch
  • Manage the aviation sales process to close through quality CRM
  • Promote existing route opportunities through appropriate market channels
  • Collaborative account management of existing airline partners to influence route growth and development and prevent loss of business
  • Participate in negotiations on airline deals and advise on drafting of contracts
  • Market and promote of Edinburgh Airport, the City of Edinburgh and Scotland to the global aviation industry
  • Develop and maintain relationships with peers at airlines as well as other UK and International Airports
  • Actively input into the delivery of the aviation strategy, meeting and exceeding sales targets and contribute to the five-year plan process
Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree calibre applicant
  • Proven track record of success in sales environment
  • Excellent communication and networking skills
  • Ability to cultivate and manage relationships through a long sales cycle
  • Aviation experience is preferable, but an interest is necessary
  • A positive attitude and proactive approach
  • Target driven and total focus on achieving targets and helping grow business
  • Pro-active approach to self-generate new business through activity, referrals and networks
  • Highly numerate and articulate
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Excel, Power-point and Word, and an ability to manipulate data
  • Experience in influencing key decision makers and communicating effectively (both written and verbally)
  • Strong social grounding and an ability to communicate with and host customers from analyst level to CEO
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment

The post holder will:

  • Have an input into aviation strategy
  • Have and maintain a professional level of awareness of relevant aviation markets and a general awareness of wider aviation markets
  • Be flexible and reactive to aviation market requirements. This will include working out of hours, attending conferences, hosting and entertaining at evenings and weekends and involve domestic and foreign travel
  • Be responsible for personal compliance with company Health and Safety Policies, ensuring safe working practices to minimise risk to self, work colleagues, customers and staff is minimised.
