IT Operations Engineer

This role is to provide specialist expertise across a board range of IT systems and infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically focussed professional looking to develop their skills across the server, systems, data centre and network landscape. This is a hands-on delivery position, best suited to someone willing to turn their hand to any technical problem or opportunity. A self-starter with a positive attitude and strong work ethic will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in resolving problems and building the airport’s technology portfolio, for future growth. This role sits within IT Department, IT Ops Team, as part of the wider Technical Asset and IT function. Reporting to the IT Operations Manager.

This role is part of a team which provides specialist knowledge and expertise across the entire airport technology landscape. A value-add team of professionals, promoting the positive use of technology to improve business efficiency and performance, influencing, supporting and delivering on technology strategy. There are 3 key areas of focus:

• Working in partnership with the technology team, business users and key technology partners to deliver a powerful and stable, technical platform. Helping to identifying opportunities and owning the continuous improvement priorities and deliverables.
• Supporting the Service Team with 3^rd line incident support, training, problem management and non-standard requests.
• Providing technical resource and expertise to the Project Delivery function

Key Responsibilities:

• Owning, Development and Enhancing the airport current solutions specifically around O365 and Azure integrations and solutions
• Deliver assigned initiatives as agreed by IT engagement and management teams
• Pro-actively seek out and recommend technology improvements
• Working with Datacentre and Networking partners to ensure stable platforms for critical airport operations
• Provide Technical input to Project Delivery function within Edinburgh Airport
• Build and manage continuous improvement plans for areas of technical responsibility
• Engage with IT community
• Input into architectural design
• Be a 3^rd line of escalation in incidents Provide mentoring and development
• Providing On-Call escalation for critical IT incidents on a rota of 1 in 6 weeks.

Candidates should have an excellent understanding of: 

• Windows server and desktop operating systems
• Network technologies stack, e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLan’s
• Azure Active directory
• Microsoft Office 365 stack
• Data Centre management
• Powershell
• Change management

Awareness of the following is desirable but not essential:

• SQL Server administration
• Monitoring technologies
• Telephony systems (Cisco VOiP)
• VMWare
• IT Security technologies

Candidates should also have:

• Strong problem solving abilities
• Ability to work with others, as well as independently
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure with competing priorities in a 24x7 environment
• Excellent documentation skills
• Proven capacity to self-learn

Education and Training:

Microsoft or other technical certification highly desirable but not essential.
