Job Description:

The Airside Operations Duty Manager is accountable for leading the team of Airside Officers, responsible for maintaining a fully compliant, operational and safe airfield, 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Principal accountabilities

Ensure that safety is given the highest priority at all times in meeting operational standards, create an environment that actively encourages a safety culture in the day to day management of the airfield.  
Responsible for the effective implementation, continuing application and continuous review, of all airside activities to comply with regulatory, statutory and other airport operational policies, processes, documents and notices.  
Responsible for the effective implementation and the continuing application of all safeguarding policies, processes, documents and notices are strictly adhered to (e.g. crane permits, etc.).
Act, when required, on behalf of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), e.g. detention of aircraft, mandatory occurrence reporting, bird strikes, etc. 
Ensure personal and team compliance with all policies, processes, documents, notices, regulatory, legal and statutory obligations.
Provide leadership, guidance and purpose to the team to achieve the stated objectives.  Performance should be measured and managed on a regular basis against agreed objectives.  Objectives should be meaningful and aligned with business and departmental goals.
Implement, when applicable, all people policies and processes effectively with your team (e.g. recruitment, absence management, performance management, grievance, disciplinary).
Contribute to the airport wide KPI dashboards and other reporting tools, ensuring appropriate updates reflect the airside operational status for safety, environmental, operational and service standards.  
Deliver the airfield operation within the agreed budgetary parameters 
Input where appropriate, to ensure that all capital and revenue projects are aligned to the airfield operational needs.  Assist with the delivery of airside capital and revenue projects, which will allow improvements in; safety, environmental, operational and service standards.
Work closely with all business partners to deliver a compliant, safe and efficient operation.  Ensure that the Airside Operations department delivers a customer focused and professional service, responding to customers concerns and requirements.
Ensure that the airfield business continuity plans, the risk register and risk assessments are regularly reviewed, with any learning points identified and incorporated into new and improved airfield procedures.
Manage and control the airfield team during any potential periods of operational disruption (e.g. adverse weather, industrial action, system failures).  To respond as per the requirements of Edinburgh Airport current policies and procedures (e.g.  Emergency Orders, Winter Operation Plans, Aircraft Recovery Orders, Diversionary Status). 
Active participation in contingency programmes (e.g. snowman).

Person Specification:

A specific safety, environmental or airside operations qualification would be desirable or demonstrable knowledge and experience. 
Operational knowledge of the boundaries and constraints involved in a regulatory environment.
Experience of Safety Management Systems, Risk Assessments and Business Continuity Plans.
Commercial awareness; evidence of delivering goals or strategy to achieve organisational objective 
Should be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, at all levels of the organisation and with external organisations.
High level of competence with IT systems and packages.
Valid, full DVLA drivers licence (or equivalent).
The ability to hold a Firearms, Shotgun and Ammunitions licence
