Job Description:

Following a departmental restructure, we are looking for an enthusiastic Environmental advisor to join the EHSQ team at Edinburgh Airport.

You will be responsible for delivering and coordinating the environmental strategy and be the subject matter expert, working with teams across the airport as well as third parties helping them to understand and reduce their negative impacts and maximise on environmental opportunities.

This fast paced role will allow you to get involved in a wide variety of environmental projects including; Environmental Management System (EMS) management, waste and recycling, carbon and energy reduction, air quality, biodiversity, water quality, project work and more.

The role requires someone with a strong understanding of environmental issues, who is confident, dynamic, proactive, can effectively build and maintain relationships and can communicate information in a way that will influence long term improvements.

Person Specification:

Principal accountabilities

  • To promote and maintain an effective environmental management system, accredited to ISO 14001
  • Monitor progress towards environmental goals through data analysis and interpretation, supporting with interventions as needed and completing required month end reporting
  • Work with the business to ensure compliance with new environmental legislation
  • Represent Edinburgh Airport’s within relevant environmental groups and committees
  • Support the business and provide direction on environmental issues, mitigations and proactive engagement with individual teams to improve the culture across the business
  • Ensure business understanding of environmental licences and conditions, acting as a day to day point of contact with SEPA
  • Conduct internal audits in line with the airports internal audit schedule
  • Prepare communication tools and training packages to deliver communication to different levels of the business to build understanding and awareness of environment risks, issues and management across the airport
  • prepare responses to environmental complaints and enquiries received from stakeholders
  • Provide environmental support to capital projects as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential

  • Working knowledge of environmental management systems and environment issues
  • Strong inter-personal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Experienced in influencing stakeholders
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Confident in decision making, issue resolution and ability to deliver
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Ability to operate under pressure
  • The ability to organise and prioritise workload.

    Desirable

  • BSc in Environment Management, Environment Science or similar
  • Membership of professional body (IEMA, CIWM etc.) or willingness to obtain membership
  • ISO14001 Internal Auditor or willingness to complete training course
  • Airport or aviation experience.
