About the role

Reporting to the Airside Support Unit Team Manager, the Airside Support Unit Operative is responsible for providing a great service, by providing an efficient coaching operation to all airport users, as well as working interactively with the Duty Team.

The ASU Operative role follows a fully flexible roster pattern however this role will be a 35 hour/week roster, predominately nightshift. Shifts are issued three weeks in advance and follows a base pattern however there may be two or more fully flexible moves made within any week. Further information about the shifts can be discussed at interview.

About the Recruitment Process

The recruitment process for this role will involve an in person competency based interview, where you will meet with our Airside Operations Resilience Manager and an Airside Support Unit Team Manager. Depending on the volume of applications, we may introduce an initial Teams screening call.

What you’ll be doing

  • Potentially drive the multiple vehicles within our fleet including coaches, sweepers, trolley vehicles and winter operations vehicles 
  • Carry out Airside/Landside sweeping to meet H&S and CAA Requirements
  • Ensure SLA, SOP’s, CEN, CED and TBT are read and understood 
  • Carry out snow clearing duties during winter operations
  • Be able to act on their own initiative and prioritise their work; monitor and liaise with ground handling agents and other Airport users to provide an efficient coaching operation.
  • Assist when required with allocation of coaching, sweeping etc, as and when required, with the aid of the IT systems in place

  • This role requires the successful candidate to obtain a Counter Terrorist Check, so you must have been living in the UK for the last 3 consecutive years
  • We are open 365 days per year and a 24-hr operation, so applicants must be able to work shifts
  • Full UK driving licence and applicants must hold CAT C, CAT D and CAT C+E licenses - you will be asked to upload your license as part of the application process
  • Excellent team working and communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Sound interpersonal skills
  • Basic IT skills (successful candidates will be required to use our systems including but not limited to Iauditor, e-learning and our intranet Gate 8) 
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Applicants must hold a current Certificate of Professional Competence 

Framework and boundaries

  • Health and Safety is a priority at all times
  • Work is undertaken in outside areas regardless of prevailing weather conditions.
  • The working environment is varied but will include a high degree of customer contact. This will require a smart appearance and a polite and professional approach at all times.
  • Uniform and PPE to be worn at all times when appropriate.
  • Ensure no miss use of ID and driving permit, within the boundaries of the Airside pass procedure.
  • Ensure any issues with your DVLA driving licence is flagged up to the relevant people, in this case your Team Manager
